Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Prof. Tersoo Kpelai has condemned the attack on modern market and destruction of properties by suspected hoodlums living within the modern market environs.
Professor Kpelai gave the condemnation when he visited the District Head of Modern Market ward , Tyoor Pius Tyo after an on the spot assessment tour of destructions at modern market by suspected hoodlums who were allegedly protesting the killing of two Catholic Priests and 17 others in a Catholic Church in Mbalom, Gwer East Local Government area of Benue State.
The Commissioner while expressing displeasure over the unruly behavior of the youths maintained that the modern market is a commonwealth which was established by the first civilian Governor of Benue State, Aper Aku of blessed memory for the benefit of the entire state and even Nigeria as a whole and wondered why youths working on primordial sentiments will continue to take advantage of security issues to attack and loot properties in the market.
He directed security operatives attached to the market, traders union and the market authorities to reopen the market even as he charge the market manager to initiate the process of rebuilding the broken fence with immediate effect.
The District Head of Modern Market ward, Chief Pius Tyo while commending the Commissioner for his prompt visit condemn the action of the youths and promised to meet with his council to put in place, measures that will prevent such occurrence in the market.
The Chairman, Modern Market Indigenous Traders Association, Mr. Paul Yaakwan commended the Commissioner and Security agencies for their proactive steps and wondered why youths who claimed to be protesting the killing of their loved ones will resort to destroying their commonwealth.
The Commissioner was accompanied by the Director of Commerce, Mr. Joseph Odoh, Special Assistant to the Governor on Administration, Chiamo Gbabo and the market Assistant Manager, Aondoakaa Anyam.
